Picture and Sound Show: FAQ This page contains instructions for common tasks, and some of the questions frequently asked by users of the Picture and Sound Show.
To configure the Picture and Sound Show, right-click on the Windows desktop, select "Properties" from the menu, and click on the "Screen Saver" tab. Make sure that the "Picture and Sound Show" is the selected screen saver (the lion picture should appear), and then press the "Settings" button.

There are two ways to do this, depending on the contents of the folder. If the folder only contains picture files, and you want all these files to be displayed, do the following:
However, if the folder contains files that are not pictures, or if it contains some picture files that you do not want to be displayed, then the best thing to do is use wildcards. For example, to display all the bitmaps in the "C:\Images" folder, add a picture file with the name "C:\Images\*.bmp". This requires the following steps:
Both of the above methods can also be used to play all the sounds in a particular folder.
The Picture and Sound Show can play any sound file type supported by the Windows Media Player. However, it assumes that certain sound types are supported (WAV, MIDI, MP3, SND, AU and AIFF). You can view and change the list of supported sound types by selecting the Sound Options tab. To add a sound type, press the "New..." button, which will open the "New Sound File Type" dialog box. Here you can specify a name, file extensions, and MCI handler for the new sound type.
There are two ways to synchronize displaying pictures and playing sounds:
If both of the above options are selected, the first option will take precedence.
The Picture and Sound Show can create new screen savers that you can either use on your PC or distribute to other people. To create a screen saver, perform the following steps:
The best way to send the two files created by the Picture and Sound Show is to compress them into a single zip file. The person who receives the zip file must extract the two files into their Windows System directory. Note that the Picture and Sound Show license prohibits the sale, rent, lease or loan of created screen savers. You are permitted to distribute created screen savers as long as you give them away, you do not profit from this activity, and everyone you give them to agrees to abide by the Picture and Sound Show license.
Yes, the software is fully Y2K compliant. However, as "by file date" is one of the sort orders in the Picture Options tab and Sound Options tab, you should ensure that both your PC and Windows are also Y2K compliant.
While it is possible to load picture and sound files from a floppy disk, or any other removable media, this will obviously be slower than loading them from a hard disk. Also, the disk must be present when the Picture and Sound Show is activated. In the past, one of the reasons to use removable media was to enable the set of pictures and sounds to be changed without altering the Picture and Sound Show configuration. However, this can now be done by setting up collections, and so the use of removable media is no longer recommended.
No, you do not need to uninstall the old version. The setup program will by default install the new version over the top of the older version. In fact, if you uninstall the old version, you will lose your configured settings. |
